An Optometrist conducts comprehensive eye examinations to assess patients' visual health and detect ocular conditions, prescribing appropriate corrective lenses and referring patients for further investigation when required. Responsibilities include performing thorough sight tests, explaining diagnoses clearly to patients of all ages, collaborating with the wider clinical team, and maintaining accurate clinical records in line with regulatory standards. Optometrists registered with the General Optical Council must adhere to the highest standards of clinical governance and continuing professional development. Candidates should hold a degree in Optometry and be fully registered with the GOC. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is a patient-centred approach and genuine commitment to clinical excellence.
