A Dispensing Optician translates optical prescriptions into precisely fitted eyewear, working closely with patients to ensure their spectacles or contact lenses meet their visual needs and lifestyle requirements. Core responsibilities include interpreting prescriptions, advising on frame and lens choices, taking accurate measurements, fitting and adjusting completed eyewear, and providing aftercare services. Dispensing Opticians play a key role in the patient experience and in supporting the commercial performance of the practice. Registration with the General Optical Council as a qualified Dispensing Optician is essential. Excellent communication skills, strong product knowledge, and the ability to build rapport with patients of all ages are required. The role may also involve supervising trainee dispensing staff and supporting the practice manager with day-to-day operations.
