A Catering Assistant supports the preparation, serving, and clearing of meals within a school, hospital, care home, or commercial catering environment. Daily responsibilities include setting up servery areas, assisting with food preparation, serving customers or residents during meal times, maintaining clean and hygienic work areas, and clearing away crockery and equipment after service. The role requires a good understanding of food hygiene and allergen procedures, as well as the ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately. A friendly, approachable manner and the ability to work efficiently as part of a team are essential qualities. Previous experience in a catering or food service environment is desirable. A basic food hygiene certificate may be required or provided through training.
